Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield did not take what would be described as a “normal” path to the NFL.
As a high school player in Texas, Mayfield was looking at scholarship offers from Rice, Florida Atlantic and New Mexico. He walked on at Texas Tech before transferring to Oklahoma, where he once again had to find his way as a walk on to the Sooner football team.
Mayfield’s journey would see him win the Heisman Trophy as a senior before being the No. 1 overall selection in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Given his background, something as simple (and widely expected) as a coaching change is not going to throw the rookie quarterback for a loss.
