Greg Newsome II: Traits and Ability

Related Topics: Northwestern University

In Part 1 of our look at Greg Newsome II, I discussed Greg’s role in his college defense at Northwestern (you can find that video here). At Northwestern, Newsome was often asked to play a “pattern match” coverage without relying on safety help.

In this video we take a closer look at his individual play. Greg is an aggressive and competitive cornerback, and opposing teams often attempted to eat up his potential safety help and to take advantage of his aggreessiveness. Like every corner, Newsome got beat on occasion. But more often than not he had the quickness to redirect to unexpected routes, the recovery speed to make up ground, and the hands to fight the ball out of receivers’ hands.
