Wide receiver Brian Hartline’s first season with his hometown Browns officially ended Tuesday afternoon when the team placed him on injured reserve.
Hartline, a GlenOak High School graduate and Ohio State University product, underwent successful surgery on a broken collarbone earlier in the day, the team announced. Dr. James Voos, the team’s head physician, performed the surgery at University Hospitals.
“It’s a big loss for us,” Browns coach Mike Pettine said Monday during a conference call.
Hartline suffered the injury Sunday in a 24-10 win against the San Francisco 49ers when he ran a slant route, caught a 5-yard pass from quarterback Johnny Manziel and landed hard on his left shoulder as cornerback Kenneth Acker tackled him with 58 seconds left in the third quarter.
