Browns coach Mike Pettine not ready for youth movement, so Johnny Manziel will sit Thursday if Josh McCown’s injured ribs cooperate

The Browns are 2-6 at the season’s midpoint, and it would take a miracle to prevent their playoff drought from extending to 13 years.

But coach Mike Pettine isn’t quite ready to turn the season over to Johnny Manziel and other young players stuck behind veteran starters, meaning Josh McCown will remain the starting quarterback this week as long as his injured ribs don’t prevent him from playing.

Why not start the youth movement to see what the franchise has?

“It’s a valid question,” Pettine replied Monday during a conference call. “When we get to each week, especially with some time off coming up, we’ll certainly hit the reset button and see where we are.
