Browns choose cornerback Joe Haden as their 2016 Ed Block Courage Award winner

Browns cornerback Joe Haden fought his way back to the field after missing 11 games last season with two concussions and other injuries, including one that led to him undergoing surgery on his left ankle in March.

So Haden’s teammates chose him as the recipient of the Browns’ 2016 Ed Block Courage Award, given annually to a member of each of the 32 NFL teams who exemplifies the qualities of Ed Block, the former head athletic trainer of the Baltimore Colts, based on courage, compassion, commitment and community.

The Browns announced Haden’s selection Thursday.

“Joe has battled for our team and his teammates this year both on and off the field, and his effort and leadership are clearly recognized by his teammates, who selected him as a team captain, as well as our the Ed Block Courage Award recipient,” coach Hue Jackson said in a news release.
