CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Former Browns and current Patriots receiver Andrew Hawkins announced his retirement from the NFL on Tuesday, saying his body wasn't up for the demands of the game.
"I just got off the phone with the New England Patriots and coach Belichick and I just had to inform them of my decision to retire," he announced in a video on The Uninterrupted. "After OTAs this summer, my body just didn't respond and didn't feel the way it should going into camp."
The 5-7 Hawkins said the move was "bittersweet'' because people told him as far as back as middle school that he wouldn't make it -- and he here was at 32 telling the Super Bowl champions that he was hanging it up.
