Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney won’t like this.
The NCAA has released a statement that the “5 for 5” eligibility rule change is not imminent.
Per the statement, the “current academic year and for the rosters competing during the 2026-27 academic year, it will maintain existing eligibility rules… (for) student-athletes competing in no more than four seasons of athletics competition in a particular sport over a consecutive five-year period.”
Swinney had hoped that around this time next year, the NCAA would have a “5 for 5” rule that would give college athletes five years of playing eligibility within a five-year window, so the four-game redshirt game limit wouldn’t be a consideration.
