SMU rolled into Memorial Stadium on Saturday and knocked off Clemson, 35-24, avenging the last-second loss to the Tigers in last season’s ACC Championship Game.
But Saturday’s game wasn’t about getting revenge against Clemson, at least not for SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee.
“Revenge wasn’t a big deal to me,” Lashlee said following the game. “… Our guys, they’re competitive. If it would have gone the other way [in the 2024 ACC title game], Clemson would have wanted to beat us. It’s a big win because we’re 3-0 in the league now, and we beat the team who’s won eight out of the last 10 [conference titles] in this league, at their home place.
