CLEMSON — Ian Schieffelin’s football career has come to an end at Clemson.
Dabo Swinney met with the media on Monday, revealing that Schieffelin will not be available when the Tigers face Penn State in the Pinstripe Bowl on December 27. Swinney did not give a reason, only noting that he would not play.
On Monday, Schieffelin released a statement on social media, explaining why he opted out of the bowl game, saying he did so “in order to put myself in the best possible position to return to basketball.”
“It didn’t work out for me the way I wanted, and that’s something Coach Swinney and I talked about before the season – that if this ended up not being what I wanted I could always go back to playing basketball,” Schieffelin wrote.
