Punter could follow dad's footsteps

Bill Spiers was a Major League shortstop and third baseman over the span of three decades.

A first round draft pick out of Clemson, Spiers played for the Brewers from 1989-94. He was with the Mets in ’95 before finishing his career with the Astros in 2001.

Spiers, who was also a punter in college, is now the head football coach at Calhoun Academy. His son, Will, was a quarterback and punter.

The 6-5, 210-pound senior was offered as a preferred walk-on punter while he was visiting with Dabo Swinney before the Florida State game.

“He called my dad, I think two weeks before that and talked about it,” Spiers said.
