Poppie Shaking Up Program, Keeping Culture

AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. – When Shawn Poppie was hired as Clemson’s head women’s basketball coach in March 2024, he stepped into his first Power Four head coaching position with an office that overlooked the Tigers’ practice facility and a program that resembled a blank canvas.

The former University of Tennessee at Chattanooga head coach inherited just two returning players with meaningful collegiate experience, a depleted staff, and slim alumni or fan support. After all, the Tigers had not recorded a winning season since their 20-13 run in the 2018-2019 season.

Clemson fans had waited a long time for a reset.
