CLEMSON — It does not appear a new format for the College Football Playoff will be passed before the 2025 season starts, and maybe not for the 2026 season either.
ESPN’s Heather Dinich reported Friday that multiple sources doubt any decision on the playoff format will be made for 2026 and beyond. CFP leaders are expected to meet in Asheville next week to discuss the new format.
Though the SEC and Big Ten have control of deciding on the new format, they are not on the same page. The main issue comes from the 5+11 format, where the Big Ten is not in favor of it because the SEC and ACC do not play a nine-game conference schedule.
