When Indiana came calling, Brad Brownell listened. Born in Evansville, a lifelong Hoosiers fan, the Clemson coach knew the allure of IU basketball. But in the end, he trusted his gut — and stayed where he felt most at home.
“I spoke with them, but I was never ‘the guy,’” Brownell said. “It didn’t feel right at that time.”
Instead of chasing a dream, Brownell cemented his Clemson future with a new six-year, $27.5 million contract — a deal that includes a unique clause allowing him to one day transition into a special assistant role with the athletic director.
