Orange Bowl Prediction

Clemson will be looking to put to rest their debacle in the Orange Bowl two years ago. The Tigers have grown a lot since that point and have an opportunity to show the nation that they can compete with the big boys. But it won't be an easy task. Clemson will need to bring their A game if they hope to beat Ohio State.

Clemson's Offense vs Ohio State's Defense

Ohio State's weaknesses play right into the strengths of the Clemson offense. The Buckeye secondary has had trouble stopping the pass. With Sammy Watkins and Martavis Bryant at receiver, Clemson should be able to take advantage through the air. Also, OSU will be without their leading pass rusher, Noah Spence, after a suspension from the Big Ten. OSU has faired well against the run giving up just over 100 yards per game. In their last game, Michigan State did show that the Buckeye defense can be susceptible to the run game. Leading tackler, Ryan Shazier will play a big part in OSU's efforts to stop the run.

Ohio State's Offense vs Clemson's Defense

Offensively, Ohio State is dangerous. Braxton Miller is one of the premiere QBs in the country. He has over 1000 yards rushing this year and is good as a passer too. Miller, a lot like Connor Shaw, can pick up chunks of yards at a time. The Clemson D will have to do what they didn't against Shaw and that's contain Miller. The Tigers cannot let him outside the pocket consistently. Vic Beasley will have to be hugely effective. If the Tigers can slow him down, they still have to worry about running back Carlos Hyde. Hyde averages 140 yards per game. The Tigers have done well against talented running backs this season but can't let up in Miami. Expect Spencer Shuey and Stephone Anthony to have big games.

Special Teams

Both teams haven't been spectacular on special teams. Both kickers are consistent and both can make pressure kicks. Clemson has tons of speed to have big punt returns. One big play in special teams can lead to a win.

X-Factor

The Clemson Dline will have to be effective against Buckeye QB Braxton Miller. The Tigers can't afford to let him run wild. If they don't pressure him and don't keep him contained, Miller will look like Shaw did for South Carolina against the Tigers.

Predictions

Both offenses can run up the scoreboard. A few defensive stops could win this game. Tajh Boyd should be able to put up big passing numbers but can he keep up with Miller if this turns into a shoot out?

The Buckeye offense will be difficult to stop but the Tigers can hang. Will they be able to pull it out in the end? Ohio State wins 38-37.
