CHICAGO – After Phillip Ervin became the first Reds batter to record six hits in a game in the last 70 years on Saturday, teammates hugged him in the clubhouse to congratulate him. Some joked with him about fixing his hair for TV cameras during his postgame interview.

Teammates are thrilled for Ervin’s success. They’ve watched how hard he’s worked before games. They respect how he’s dealt with several minor-league demotions.

He’s been demoted to Triple-A Louisville nine times since he made his Major League debut in April 2017, including three times this season.
