TORONTO — Michael Lorenzen is a reliever because that was the Reds’ greatest need when he was ready to return from an elbow injury that delayed the start of his season.
A year later, the Reds’ bullpen is secure, but the team’s rotation is in shambles. Yet Lorenzen still sits in the bullpen. There he’s serving a valuable role, but he’s still pitched just 28 1/3 innings over 22 games.
Tuesday in the Reds’ 6-4 loss to the Blue Jays, Lorenzen pitched three innings in relief of Asher Wojciechowski, the 10th different starter the Reds have used through 51 games.
