Michael Lorenzen has thrown live batting practice sessions against hitters, including at least once against teammate Shogo Akiyama, for about six weeks.
During some of those sessions, he’s thrown about 90 pitches or about six innings of a simulated game. It wasn’t exactly intentional, but Lorenzen missed the competition. It’s more than he’d throw in a game as a late-game reliever, but that’s the perk of staying in game shape during the summer.
As Lorenzen prepares to travel to Cincinnati for spring training 2.0 this week, he isn’t worried about his workload for an abbreviated three-week camp before Opening Day on July 24.
