Brandon Phillips and Jay Bruce were teammates with the Cincinnati Reds from 2008 (when Bruce made his big-league debut) until August of 2016 (when the Reds traded Bruce to the Mets).
On Monday night in Atlanta, Phillips - traded by the Reds to the Braves in February - robbed his former teammate of a hit with a leaping catch in the 1st inning of the Mets' 7-5 win.
Bruce had a hit in five at-bats with a run scored and two strikeouts. His batting average this season is .287.
Phillips was hitless in four at-bats on Monday.
