Tom Seaver, Hall of Famer and former Cincinnati Reds great, diagnosed with dementia

The family of former Cincinnati Reds great Tom Seaver released a statement Thursday that the National Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher has been diagnosed with dementia and is retiring from public life.

"The family is deeply appreciative of those who have supported Tom throughout his career ... and who do so now by honoring his request for privacy," the statement reads.

The 74-year-old Seaver was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1992.
