After months of waiting and rehabbing, Alex Wood wasn’t sure how to describe what he’s dealt with throughout the 2019 season. When he felt his back spasm after his first spring training start, he was hopeful he could return around Opening Day.

He waited nearly four months for Sunday’s season debut against the Colorado Rockies.

There were multiple setbacks. There was a three-week period without picking up a baseball. He was preparing for his first rehab start at Triple-A Louisville last month when he felt some soreness in his back.
