The Cincinnati Reds didn’t enjoy the return to form they’d hope to get from left-hander Amir Garrett, falling 13-8 on Sunday at Great American Ball Park. Here are the main storylines.
Amir Garrett’s return went poorly. The lanky left-hander made his return from the disabled list, but a combination of poor luck and poor pitching turned what was supposed to be a team-lifting event into a drag. Garrett was hammered for nine runs – eight earned – in just 2 2/3 innings. He allowed three home runs.
Some things just didn’t go his way. Shortstop Zack Cozart made a rare throwing error that extended the first inning and led to an unearned run.
