CHICAGO – The Reds are limping back to Cincinnati after a 9-5 loss to the Cubs, finishing up a 1-6 roadtrip to San Francisco and Chicago.
Box score: Cubs 9, Reds 5
Here are the main storylines from Thursday’s game:
Garrett’s return goes awry: Left-hander Amir Garrett returned from the minors looking rusty, walking three batters in the first inning, including one with the bases loaded to score the first run. He then gave up a grand slam to the next batter he faced, Cubs second baseman Javier Baez.
In all, Garrett needed 35 pitches to get through the first inning.
