Reds promote prospect Spencer Steer and reliever Fernando Cruz as rosters expand

With two additional roster spots in September, the Cincinnati Reds are promoting one of the top prospects they acquired at the trade deadline and a reliever who waited seven years for his next chance in the minor leagues.

Infielder Spencer Steer and closer Fernando Cruz were informed Wednesday night they will join the Reds for Friday’s series opener against the Rockies at Great American Ball Park, The Enquirer confirmed.

Steer is ranked as the No. 98 prospect by Baseball America and the headline prospect the Reds received from the Minnesota Twins in the Tyler Mahle trade.
