Reds pitcher Brandon Bailey to undergo Tommy John surgery

The first injury of spring training has arrived in Goodyear, Arizona. Right-handed pitcher Brandon Bailey is going to require Tommy John surgery and he will miss the entire 2021 season. He was acquired by the Cincinnati Reds in November from the Houston Astros in a trade for a pile of cash.

During the 2020 season, the now 26-year-old pitched in five games for the Astros and allowed two runs in 7.1 innings (2.45 ERA) while giving up six hits, walking three batters, and striking out four hitters. He was going to be in competition for a spot in the bullpen, but now he’ll eventually wind up on the 60-day injured list.
