Reds' lack of starting pitching depth continues to show in loss to the Phillies

Over the last three years, the Cincinnati Reds front office has viewed starting pitching depth as one of the most important aspects of the team.

In 2020, Wade Miley was the Reds’ sixth starter, on the outside looking in of the rotation. Entering this season, Hunter Greene and Nick Lodolo were battling for a spot on the roster before a run of injuries helped them both get into the Reds’ Opening Day rotation.

Now with seven weeks left in the season, the Reds are desperately short on starting pitching because of trades, injuries and inconsistency.

On Tuesday, the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Reds, 11-4, in front of a crowd of 17,074 at Great American Ball Park.
