Reds' Joey Votto, Zack Cozart denied Silver Sluggers

Reds first baseman Joey Votto has won a Most Valuable Player Award, a Gold Glove and the Hank Aaron Award, but has never won a Silver Slugger.

And he still hasn’t.

Arizona’s Paul Goldschmidt was named the winner of the National League’s Silver Slugger at first base, the third time he has won the award. The Silver Slugger is awarded by Louisville Slugger and honors “the best offensive producers at each position in the American and National Leagues.”

The awards are voted upon by coaches and managers. According to the release by Louisville Slugger, “selections are based on a combination of offensive statistics, including batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage, as well as the managers’ and coaches’ general impressions of a player’s overall offensive value.
