Before Wednesday’s game, Reds manager Bryan Price talked with Cody Reed and let him know that he had to throw strikes to stay in the big leagues.
Reed walked four Pirates in two innings in Wednesday’s 7-2 Reds victory and was sent to Triple-A Louisville before Thursday’s series finale.
The Reds called up right-hander Austin Brice to take his spot on the roster.
“The one message we want to send to everybody in our organization is you have to be able to throw strikes. That’s the No. 1 prerequisite to coming to the major leagues,” Price said on Thursday.
