When the Detroit Tigers took out starting pitcher Casey Mize before the top of the fourth inning on Sunday, the Cincinnati Reds got their biggest break of the three-game series.
Mize, the No. 1 pick in the 2018 MLB Draft, had a perfect game through three innings. Mize had a 3.51 ERA, and his replacement, reliever José Ureña, had a 6.00 ERA. And in a scoreless game, the Reds had their ace on the mound in starting pitcher Luis Castillo.
The Reds got four hits against Ureña over 2 u2154 innings, but they couldn’t score. In a 4-1 loss in front of a crowd of 23,083 fans at Great American Ball Park, the Reds lost their second game of the three-game series.
