The Reds claimed 1B/OF Peter O’Brien off of waivers from the Royals and optioned him to Triple-A Louisville. To make room for O’Brien, the Reds transferred left-hander Brandon Finnegan to the 60-day disabled list.
Finnegan has been on the disabled list since April 16 with a shoulder injury. He has been in a throwing program but has yet to pitch off the mound.
O’Brien, 26, played in 36 games for the Diamondbacks in 2015 and 2016. He was hitting .162/.235/.276 in 27 games at Triple-A Omaha with three home runs. He’s played left field, first base and DH for the Storm Chasers.
