MILWAUKEE – Ariel Hernandez’s time with the Reds was brief but memorable.

The Reds optioned the 25-year-old right-hander to Double-A Pensacola and recalled right-hander Barrett Astin from Triple-A Louisville.

Hernandez pitched 2 u2154 innings in Monday’s loss, retiring all eight batters he faced with five strikeouts.

The Reds needed another fresh bullpen arm and that was Astin, who appeared in two games for the Reds earlier this season and last pitched on Saturday for the Bats. He has pitched as many as three innings for the Bats, so he would be available for a longer assignment if needed, Price said.
