Reds blow lead, lose to Padres to wrap winless road trip

The Joe Nuxhall Memorial Honorary Star of the Game

The Cincinnati Reds needed a solid outing from a starting pitcher in the absolute worst way.

Amir Garrett needed a solid outing in the absolute worst way, too, as he’d allowed an ugly 11.17 ERA in his last 7 starts (29 IP), in which time he’d allowed almost as many homers (15) as he’d compiled strikouts (17).

Fortunately for both, Garrett fired 6 innings of 2 ER ball on Thursday against the San Diego Padres, and while it wasn’t enough to either get a win or to break the Reds’ losing streak on the west coast, it was a certainly positive development that will hopefully right his ship from here going forward.
