With his fifth-inning pinch-hit single on Monday, Reds reserve Arismendy Alcantara got a hit in his seventh consecutive plate appearance, the longest active stretch in the big leagues.
Alcantara, 25, was hitless in his first eight at-bats this season, striking out six times. Since then, he’s hit .556 with just three strikeouts in 19 plate appearances. He also has eight hits in his last nine plate appearances and nine in his last 12.
“I couldn't be happier for Mendy because he shows up positive and happy every single day. He's been really challenged to get his foot in the door in the big leagues and find a role or a niche for himself,” Reds manager Bryan Price said.
