Pirates starter Zach Thompson shuts down the Reds in a quiet night for the offense

PITTSBURGH –– As the Cincinnati Reds started to right the ship over the last week and won six out of their last eight games entering Saturday night, Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson was the Reds’ best player.

Stephenson helped the pitching staff turn the corner as he caught Tyler Mahle, Hunter Greene and Connor Overton. He had a .414 batting average over that eight-game stretch, which included four multi-hit games and 11 RBI. When the Reds needed to drive a runner in with two outs, Stephenson consistently pulled through for the Reds.

Then on Saturday, in the Reds’ 3-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park, Stephenson took a foul ball off of his mask in the bottom of the third inning.
