Cincinnati Reds left-hander Tony Cingrani should begin a throwing program in the next few days as he works to return from a strained oblique, manager Bryan Price said ahead of Monday’s series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Reds had hoped that Cingrani would be able to begin throwing as early as the end of this past week, but the lefty reliever will miss that mark by a couple days. Still, it would represent a relatively speedy return from an injury that kept other Reds pitchers out months in the past.
“That’s one of the reason he didn’t start throwing exactly when we anticipated he would be able to, to avoid any chance of that,” Price said.
