Kevin Gausman was a reliever for one playoff game last year, but he hasn’t pitched out of the bullpen in a regular-season game since 2015.
The Reds are hopeful it will bring the best out of his arm. They claimed Gausman off waivers Monday and will be responsible for the nearly $3 million remaining on his 2019 salary. Gausman arrived in Cincinnati on Tuesday afternoon after making the drive from Atlanta.
Gausman yielded a 6.19 ERA in 16 starts with the Braves, missing a month of the season with plantar fasciitis in his right foot.
