The Cincinnati Reds picked Steele Hall out of Hewitt-Trussville High School (AL) with their first selection in this week’s MLB Draft, and followed that up with an additional 19 picks in their overall draft class.
To get that group signed, they’ll have to use some creative math while navigating an overall bonus pool of some $11,836,800. Hall’s slot value at pick #9 sits a little over $6.5 million, for instance, but there’s some hope he’ll sign for slightly below that number to allow the Reds to spread that savings across some over-slot deals elsewhere.
