Luis Castillo was prepared to pitch through the rain in the fifth inning Thursday, throwing warmup pitches a few feet to side of the mound as the Great American Ball Park grounds crew worked on the mound.
After a minute, the umpires had seen enough. The grounds crew turned their attention to unrolling the tarp over the infield and the Cincinnati Reds and Milwaukee Brewers entered a rain delay prior to the start of the fifth inning with the score tied, 1-1.
Castillo had retired his last 11 batters, so he's hoping for a short delay that won't knock him out of the rest of the game.
