Kenesaw Mountain Landis' name removed from Major League Baseball's MVP awards

The name of Kenesaw Mountain Landis - the Millville, Ohio, native who was Major League Baseball's first commissioner from 1920 until he died in 1944 - is being removed from MLB's Most Valuable Player awards after the Baseball Writers' Association of America voted to do so.

The awards will not have a name attached in 2020. The BBWAA could decide to add a name to the awards when it reconvenes in person, according to reports.

In June, National Baseball Hall of Famer and former Cincinnati Reds great Barry Larkin was among previous MVP award winners calling for Landis' name to be removed from the awards.
