With two runners on base and a two-run lead in the sixth inning, the Reds didn’t want to take any chances with Colorado Rockies infielder Daniel Murphy at the plate. Murphy had already done enough damage against the Reds in their previous four games.
Reds lefty reliever Wandy Peralta, who replaced Anthony DeSclafani on the mound, induced a flyout against Murphy and retired the next two batters to pitch out of the jam. Not a bad way for Peralta to celebrate his 28th birthday.
After early home runs from Josh VanMeter and Eugenio Suárez, the Reds relied on their pitching in a 3-1 victory over the Rockies at Great American Ball Park.
