Here's why Local 12 Reds Opening Day TV coverage cut last at-bat short for March Madness

Cincinnati Reds fans watching Local 12’s Opening Day coverage missed the dramatic, 12-pitch at-bat between reliever David Hernandez and Pirates outfielder Corey Dickerson for the final out in a 5-3 victory.

Local 12/WKRC-TV, the CBS-affiliate, cut from the Reds game with two outs in the ninth inning to show the start of the 7 p.m. men’s basketball game between Gonzaga and Florida State because of the network’s contractual agreement with the NCAA Tournament.

The station ran a lower-third chyron to urge people to switch to Star 64, WSTR-TV, to watch the final out if they didn’t have access to Fox Sports Ohio.
