MASON – Thanks to Cincinnati Reds utility player Derek Dietrich taking the initiative almost three years ago, his girlfriend is 2016 Olympic tennis gold medalist Monica Puig. Puig, from Puerto Rico, is the 2016 Olympic gold medalist in women's tennis.
Thanks to her victory in Rio de Janeiro, Puig was invited by the Miami Marlins to throw out the first pitch Sept. 12, 2016. Then a member of the Marlins, Dietrich introduced himself to Puig, Now the professional pair share a long-distance relationship, that has conveniently brought them together this week with the Women's Tennis Association being part of the Western & Southern Open at the Lindner Tennis Center near Kings Island.
