The Cincinnati Reds are not engaged in contract talks with free agent Nick Castellanos, general manager Nick Krall said Saturday, closing the door on a reunion with the team’s All-Star outfielder.
“We have not been engaged with his representatives,” Krall said in his first press conference following the lockout.
Castellanos opted out of the final two years of his contract in November to reenter the free-agent market. He’s expected to sign a multi-year deal and could command a salary above $16 million per season. The Miami Marlins showed serious interest in signing him prior to the lockout, but it’s unclear how they’ll proceed after team CEO Derek Jeter resigned.
