CHICAGO – The Reds’ Wednesday game in Chicago was decided in New York, leaving manager Bryan Price fuming and players confused.
Reds first baseman Joey Votto was called out at first after a replay review of a play at first base with two outs in the top of the ninth, giving the Cubs a 7-5 victory.
Votto hit a grounder that was fielded by Cubs shortstop Addison Russell, who made a sliding stop and threw on to first on one knee. Votto was initially called safe by first base umpire Ed Hickox, who signaled that Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo had been pulled off the bag.
