LOS ANGELES – Thursday in Columbus, left-hander Cody Reed tossed eight shutout innings with one walk and six strikeouts. It was easily his best performance since being sent to the minors a month ago to get his mind and mechanics right.
Reed has improved each time out, posting a 2.56 ERA in seven starts. (Although a .349 on-base percentage against is a glaring flaw.) In his last five, he has a 1.69 ERA. Still, Cincinnati Reds manager said no return to the majors is imminent for the 24-year-old.
“With Cody, it’s a matter of rebuilding his confidence and his ability to throw quality strikes with those three pitches,” Price said.
