Cincinnati Reds to add utilityman Chad Pinder on a minor league contract

With two weeks remaining before Cincinnati Reds players report to Arizona for spring training, they’re adding a veteran utilityman to camp.

Chad Pinder agreed to a minor league contract, which includes an invitation to big-league camp, according to a source with knowledge of the deal. Pinder, 30, spent the last seven seasons with the Oakland Athletics, playing in 111 games last year.

Pinder has played every position in the majors except catcher, and his versatility should give him some paths toward the Opening Day roster. He hit .235 last season with a .263 on-base percentage, 12 homers, 18 doubles and 42 RBI in 361 at-bats.
