Cincinnati Reds release Kevin Shackelford, option Jackson Stephens to clear roster spots for Anthony DeSclafani

The Reds released right-hander Kevin Shackelford to clear a 40-man roster spot for RHP Anthony DeSclafani.

RHP Jackson Stephens was optioned to Triple-A Louisville to clear a 25-man spot for DeSclafani, who will start tonight’s game.

Shackelford is having elbow surgery. He will be paid through his rehab. He appeared in 26 games for the Reds last year and put up a 4.70 ERA.
