Cincinnati Reds release Archie Bradley, Curt Casali, 2 others at the non-tender deadline

The Cincinnati Reds released four players at Wednesday’s Major League Baseball tender deadline, sending right-handed pitcher Archie Bradley, catcher Curt Casali, outfielder Brian Goodwin and right-handed pitcher R.J. Alaniz into free agency.

It was a sign of how little payroll flexibility the Reds carried into the offseason. Bradley and Goodwin were traded for two players apiece at last year’s trade deadline and they spent a month in the organization. Alaniz wasn’t eligible for arbitration, but the projected payroll savings from the other three players, according to projected from MLBTradeRumors, is about $9-12 million.

“At the end of the day, we felt that non-tendering guys and clearing up some space with where we were was just the right move for us,” Reds general manager Nick Krall said.
