The Cincinnati Reds were hopeful that Jesse Winker would be ready to return to the lineup for Friday's series opener in Pittsburgh, but Winker's injury didn't progress as quickly as the club thought it would.
Winker was placed on the 10-day injured list (IL) Thursday with a cervical strain. The Reds activated Derek Dietrich from the IL on Friday.
