Cincinnati Reds minor leaguer placed on administrative leave after rape charges

Cincinnati Reds minor leaguer Mackenzie Wainwright was indicted on two counts of rape and two counts of gross sexual imposition in Cuyahoga County, near Cleveland, on Nov. 30, 2020.

Wainwright, the team's fourth-round pick of the 2020 Major League Baseball Draft, pleaded not guilty to the indictment charges and posted a $10,000 bond on Dec. 22, records state.

The Reds placed Wainwright on administrative leave and he is not participating in minor-league spring training camp, which started this week at the team's player development complex in Goodyear, Arizona.

“Mac Wainwright, the Reds’ fourth-round pick in the June 2020 First-Year Player Draft, is on administrative leave and is not participating in Minor League Spring Training camp at the team’s player development complex in Goodyear,” the Reds said in a statement issued Tuesday afternoon.
