Cincinnati Reds lose Tyler Stephenson, eighth straight game against Padres

SAN DIEGO – It was a déjà vu start and an all-too-familiar ending in the Cincinnati Reds’ 6-2 loss to the San Diego Padres on Tuesday.

For the second straight game, the Reds took a 1-0 lead when Tommy Pham homered in his first at-bat. For the second straight day, the Padres took the lead back on a two-run homer from Manny Machado in the bottom of the first inning.

The Reds’ lead lasted eight minutes Monday. It was six-and-a-half minutes Tuesday.

If an eight-game losing streak wasn’t painful enough on this West Coast road trip, the club’s longest losing streak since 2019, the Reds lost catcher Tyler Stephenson to an injury in the bottom of the first inning after he was involved in a collision at the plate.
